This is how I do a basic set up. This Custom shop ES330 came in for a little tweaking.I used a heavy guage set of GHS rollerwounds that required a truss rod adjustment and the nut properly slotted.

    One thing that should be mentioned. After installation and during tension rod adjustment and tightening, the guitar, at least in my case, started to pop and crack loudly as the top was being levelled. I believe this is normal, but it can be a little frightening if you're not prepared for this. BTW, results were excellent, Bravo Bridge Doctor !

    Great tutorial my friend..! I have a question for you, it happens that the pickup is wider than the slot, can you give me a solution? ¿Can I enlarge the slot with a Dremel? Then the white piece will be a little loose, is that a problem? I really need help.

    A crack can be repaired with wood grain sealer and applied pressure. The wood will expand with the sealer and the pressure will then force the crack closed while it dries out. I've done this on body cracks but not tried it on matched bookend sound boards.

    Ridiculous instructions from the inventor. Heat it up then put it inside and finally clamp it. Why not clamp it first then heat with an electric blanket or heat lamp?

    Make sound test 1st. Check magnetic strength 2nd. Perform remagnetization 3rd. Retest magnetic strength 4th. Perform sound test 5th, at the same volume level, as in the beginning. Scienctific investigation and proof.

    That's a lot of work you've done there! I went out and bought a ready made one from China and usually they are fine, when after I've fitted them before. But I've fitted one recently and the low E string is sharp at the 12th fret, how would you remedy this?

    At 04:27 when removing the pickup from the vice, try to never slide it, cause right there you're creating a magnetic gradient across, basically nullifying all the work you've just put in, as you're making the poles weaker as you push to one side. Try to remove it all at once, by going forward rather than sideways. I know it's hard, but it'll be worth it! Also, for a humbucker you need to be careful since the 2 coils comprising the humbucker need to be reverse-polarity, meaning that one half of the pickup should be North side up, while the other South side up. And when you expose them to a magnetic field like in this video, their proximity will make it very difficult not to demagnetize one while re-magnetizing the other.

    What would happen if I were to do this to a pickup that is not demagnetised but has very low output? I have a set of strat pickups with Alnico Rod magnets that measure 5.1-5.2 KOhm on my multimeter and they sound weak. Could this help in any way?

    • @sli43
      @sli43 Рік тому

      You can't change the output of a pickup without rewinding. If your pickups weren't always weak then they could've just lost some magnetism and this should fix the problem.

    • @Apollwn
      @Apollwn Рік тому

      @@sli43 Thanks for the reply Scott. These pickups were in a used guitar I bought, so there is no way for me to know whether they have lost magnetism or not. My initial plan was to swap them and I will probably still do that, but I might try this trick with one of the pickups as an experiment to see what happens.

    Awesome. Is that a common occurrence with Epiphone Acoustic Guitars? Is it also something that happens if the guitar is in an arid climate like the desert southwest. You know, where even those little guitar humidifiers dry out in a month or so. What is the best way to prevent that from happening to a guitar that you play daily? It’s always tuned to pitch and never in a case. Should I just go ahead and install a bridge Dr and call it good? I don’t see myself moving to an area where the humidity rises above 3% any time soon, if ever.

    Salve, sono passati degli anni e solo ora ho visualizzato questo video "fantastico" anch'io ho già costruito una sella ma, con il tuo video riesco a costruirlo meglio e vorrei chiederti, se dopo che monto la sella l'accordatura di 1/2 corde e ok, e l'intonazione e bassa rispetto ad altre, come posso alzare l'intonazione della corda stessa, se ormai ho già levigato e abbassato la sella, grazie

    How kind of you to spend the extra time and effort to document and share this valuable knowledge. In all my years of guitarology , I wasn't aware of the JLD's existence. It looks like a truly viable addition. My sole concern is the amount of bite (or wood surface) the one countersunk screw grabs in the rosewood bridge. I may opt in favor of a non-recessed larger screw head for a more stable bite and leverage as long as it doesn't hit the bridge pins. All in all, very helpful instructions.

    I have found a bridge lift and belly bulge (especially this severe) will render the guitar intonation impossible.
